A pressure trap for a producer well of a subterranean pressurized fluid storage system, the well being lined with a casing having a casing interior connected with a subterranean pressurized fluid storage cavity through a lateral bore, includes a divider for dividing off a chamber from a lower portion of the casing interior which chamber communicates with and extends to a selected level below an entry of the lateral bore into the well casing, and a passage for fluid communication between the chamber and a remainder of the casing interior and below the entry of the lateral bore. The divider is preferably a combination of a cylindrical liner having upper and lower ends respectively positioned above and below the entry of the lateral bore, and an annular packer sealing between the liner and the well casing above the entry of the lateral bore. Methods of providing a pressure trap and sealing a producer well are also disclosed. The pressure trap can be installed at lower cost, as a retrofit in existing casings, or as a backup to failed conventional arrangement installed outside the well casing.

La présente invention vise un piège à pression pour puits producteur d'un système souterrain de stockage de fluide sous pression, garni d'un tubage dont l'intérieur est relié, par un forage latéral, à la cavité souterraine de stockage de fluide sous pression. Le piège comporte une cloison servant à délimiter une chambre, dans la portion inférieure du tubage, qui se prolonge jusqu'à un niveau déterminé situé au-dessous d'un point d'entrée du forage latéral dans le tubage, et qui est reliée à un passage permettant la communication du fluide entre la chambre et le reste du tubage sous le point d'entrée du forage. Selon une version privilégiée, la cloison séparatrice est constituée d'une combinaison des éléments suivants, à savoir un garnissage cylindrique dont les extrémités supérieure et inférieure sont respectivement positionnées au-dessus et au-dessous du point d'entrée du forage latéral, et un packer annulaire destiné à sceller l'ouverture entre le garnissage et le tubage, au-dessus du point d'entrée du forage. Font également l'objet de la présente invention les méthodes de réalisation d'un piège à pression et de scellement d'un puits producteur. Le piège à pression peut être réalisé à peu de frais, à titre d'élément de modernisation d'un tubage existant, ou d'élément de relève en cas de défaillance d'une installation traditionnelle installée hors tubage.
