A process is disclosed for preparing and isolating a novel cefadroxil solvate of dimethylacetamide, N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone or monomethylformamide. This solvate is useful for the preparation of a crystalline cefadroxyl hemihydrate which has a K.F. between about 3.5 and 2.0% and is more stable than other cefadroxyl molecules.
