An apparatus and method for enabling the combination of multiple streams of data cells into a single thread. By enabling plural input ports of an intermediate device to access a single parallel output port of the device, plural network switch elements share a single thread through a switch fabric. For instance, the method and apparatus permit interleaving the relatively low bandwidth cell outputs of two ATM network switch central control processors (202A, 202B) onto a single thread (212) routed through an interconnected switch fabric (204). Certain of these cells are received from the switch fabric at a parallel input of the intermediate device, then routed to one of plural serial output ports. Pacing of cells provided to the plural serial input ports prevents exceeding the shared thread bandwidth.
L'invention concerne un appareil et un procédé permettant de combiner de multiples trains de cellules de données en un seul fil de cellules. En permettant à plusieurs ports d'entrée d'un dispositif intermédiaire d'accéder à un seul port de sortie parallèle du dispositif, plusieurs éléments de commutateur de réseau partagent un fil unique d'un tissu de commutateur. Le procédé et l'appareil en question permettent notamment d'entrelacer les sorties de cellules à largeur de bande relativement faible de deux unités (202A, 202B) de commande centrale de commutateur de réseau MTA sur un seul fil (212) acheminé par l'intermédiaire d'un tissu (204) de commutateur interconnecté. Certaines de ces cellules sont reçues du tissu du commutateur au niveau d'une entrée parallèle du dispositif intermédiaire, puis acheminées vers l'un des ports de sortie série. La régulation de l'acheminement des cellules vers les ports d'entrée série permet d'éviter un dépassement de la largeur de bande du fil partagé.
