(u.S. 955,646) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A novel electrochemical cell is disclosed utilizing an alkali metal anode, a fluorinated carbon cathode, and an electrolyte which includes an alkali metal halide salt and a mixed solvent system containing a substituted amide and a cyclic carbonate. Preferred are the cells wherein the anode is lithium, the cathode is C2F, and the electrolyte contains essentially of LiCl and a solvent system of N,N-dimethylacetamide and propylene carbonate, optionally with an ether.
