Description

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A cell-type filter is disclosed having a fibrous filter medium arranged to have an unfiltered fluid side and a filtered fluid side, and having netting disposed on and coacting with the unfiltered fluid side of the fibrous filter medium to enhance tensile strength of the fibrous filter medium. A method is also provided for producing such cell-type filter. In this invention, the surface area of filter material exposed to unfiltered fluid has a netting disposed thereon, thereby preventing flaking, cracking and the like of filter media during backflow or cleaning operations. The netting is secured to the cell by a molded circumferential retainer and a circumferential centrally disposed ring.
