The invention relates to a method for characterising the extent to which biological samples of interest stored at very low temperatures have been exposed to a stress other than those related to a normal freezing/thawing and preservation cycle, including the preservation of a sample of calibrated indicator cells with said samples. The invention also relates to a method for calibrating indicator cells, and to the thus-calibrated indicator cells.
