Cellulose sponge, which has a high alcohol aqueous solution absorption, exhibits suitable flexibility irrespective of whether a chemical is contained, suppresses generation of lint and is suitable for medical care, and a method of manufacturing the same. The method of manufacturing cellulose sponge comprises heating, solidifying and forming a sponge undiluted solution, which contains viscose and crystal mirabilite but does not contain reinforcing fibre, in a die (forming process), and performing aftertreatment to manufacture cellulose sponge, the forming process comprising at least a process of holding the sponge undiluted solution at at least 35 ~C but at most 70 ~C for at least 30 minutes but at most 24 hours. The resulting cellulose sponge has a rate of alcohol aqueous solution absorption of at least 1500 % but at most 3000 %, an apparent density of at least 0.01 g/ml but at most 0.07 g/ml in a dry state, flexibility, and a strength of at least 8 g/mm2 but at most 25 g/mm2 when made wet by water.
