ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention provides in a cement slab or the like having reinforcing inserts of fibres in the vicinity of one or both slab surfaces, the improvement in which each of the reinforcing inserts is a lattice mesh formed of glass fibre bundles that cross over one another, the glass fibre bundles consisting of continuous fibres that are oriented in the longitudinal direc- tion. The cement slab is thus reinforced by means of reinforcing inserts of glass fibres that are located adjacent to one or ad- jacent to both surfaces of the slab and in which the reinforcing inserts are so installed and made that the slab displays the desired high resistance to bending tensile loads for a greatly reduced fibre content, has greatly improved impact resistance in comparison to asbestos-cement slabs, and which can be used in various ways, for example, by being nailed into position
