ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A sintered hard metal or cemented carbide is disclosed which consists of one or more hard materials consisting of molybdenum-tungsten-carbonitride having the structure of tungsten carbide in an amount of 50 to 99% by volume and a binder alloy of metals belonging to the iron group of the periodic system in amounts of 1 to 50 % by volume, characterized in that the contents of molybdenum and/or tungsten are at least partially substituted with one or more metals selected from the groups Cr, Nb, Ta, V or Re.
