Abstract: A floating reference voltage is generated for use in controlling the direction of travel of a welding arc. A reference voltage corresponding to the actual welding current is corrected to eliminate the effects of "dip transfer" to form a control signal for deriving an integrated signal corresponding to delivered weld current. The control signal is further modified by a frequency responsive amplifier to pass low frequency components of the control signal as a floating reference voltage. A fixed voltage reference is provided for use during system start-up.
