Abstract of the Disclosure In a central belt lock, especially for parachute har- nesses, with a housing and a main pin that is manually rotatable and manually displaceable axially therein, and with an anchor plate that coacts with several retaining posts for the belt buckles, the problem arises of getting the buckles released and thereby separated from the lock even when the parachutist, after bailing out over water, is unable for any reason to operate the lock manually. The aim of the invention is therefore to create a central belt lock which, without altering its functioning in the case of hand release, is operated by and can be triggered by sea water. For this purpose the main pin has at least one longi- tudinal bore in which a push rod is accommodated so as to be longitudinally displaceable, to which rod there is assigned a force-storing device that is triggered on contact with water and axially displaces the push rod and hence also the anchor plate with the retaining posts. Preferably the rotary grip of the belt lock possesses an interior space in which the force storing device and transmission links are accommodated.
