A central lock includes a central housing with a pinion mounted in the housing positioned to drive laterally projecting rigid transmission bars which have lifting cams attached to the ends thereof. The central housing further includes a rack which drives the pinion in response to operation of a key operated cylinder lock. The central locking system may be used in combination with multi-drawer cabinets made from wood and/or metal.
