Telephone exchange system (1) with a voice storage device (7) as well as a method for storing voice messages in such an exchange system, with the voice storage device being able to store the voice messages that arrive from a calling subscriber (2) and are intended for a called subscriber (3) as well as transmitting said voice messages to the called subscriber after being prompted to do so. The telephone exchange system is provided with means (6) that store the number and/or the name of the person (2) recording the voice messages as well as the number of voice messages in a caller table. This table is transmitted to the called subscriber (3) upon request and indicated on his display unit (8). The called subscriber can choose in which sequence he wants to retrieve the voice messages.
