The impeller (44; 72; 90; 126) includes a plurality of openings configured to expose the bearing (42; 78B; 98; 152) to the fluid. Magnets or a magnetic ring (59; 82; 110; 158) are carried by the impeller (44; 72; 90; 126), and are adapted to be magnetically coupled with the magnetic drive device (14) to rotate the impeller (44; 72; 90; 126), and thereby pump fluid through the pumping unit (12; 60; 86; 124). 6:1.8
