SAFETY DEVICE ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A safety device for a hand-held power tool having cutting means, for example a chain saw, comprises a centrifugal clutch, a safety coupling for disengaging the drive of the cutting means and a brake for bringing the cutting means quickly to a stop. The safety coupling comprises two coaxial rotatable members of which one carries a pawl pivoted eccentrically of the axis of rotation and the other has an abutment engageable by the pawl to connect the coupling members for rotation with one another. During normal operation a trip arm holds the pawl engaged with the abutment. When the trip arm is tripped to release the pawl, a latch prevents reengagement of the pawl until reset. Actuating means is operable in one mode for tripping the trip arm to disengage the coupling and for applying the brake, and is operable in another mode to release the brake and reengage the coupling. -1-
