- 18 - ABSTRACT Improvements in Centrifugal Couplings. A coupling (10) has input (16) and output (18) members interconnected by two-link (2,3) coupling elements (A,B,C) which are flexible in the plane of rotation by centrifugal force acting on them as the coupling (10) rotates and by the torque transmitted. The coupling is soft over a range of speeds and torques. The input member (16) is constructed from two metal spinnings (28,30) welded together to form a housing which supports the pivot (X) of each coupling element at both ends. Thus the input member is much lighter. The output member (18) is similarly constructed with bushes (47a,b) welded on to support the pivot (Y) also at both ends. The output member is thus lighter and less complicated to make. The pivots (J,Y) are axially free within limits increasing the axial misalignment capability of the coupling (10). A spring arrangement to buffer the links (2,3) if they rapidly approach their stops is provided.
