A centrifugal spiral spring clutch has a rotatable clutch housing having an inner clutch surface. The clutch housing has a circular cross-section. A drive shaft is provided in the centre of the clutch housing, the drive shaft being rotated by torque. There is more than one spiral spring, each spiral spring having a shaft attachment end and a clutch engagement end. The shaft attachment end is attached to the drive shaft such that the spiral spring rotates with the drive shaft. Each spiral spring is wound opposite the direction of rotation of the drive shaft. The clutch engagement end engages the inner clutch surface by friction. Each clutch engagement end is radially distributed about the clutch surface such that the force applied by the more than one spiral spring is balanced. The clutch housing rotates slower than the drive shaft when the drive shaft rotates with a rotational speed below a predetermined threshold, and the friction increases as the rotational speed of the drive shaft increases such that the clutch housing rotates with the drive shaft.
