This invention relates to a Centrifugal Thruster (CT) that utilizes a combination of kinetic energy and centrifugal force to produce net propulsive thrust without generating excessive internal stress on its own structure. This Centrifugal Thruster (CT) produces net propulsive force by running at least one mass - a weight assembly - on a closed loop path where the combined effects of the shape of the path and the varying speed of the weight assembly produce an imbalance of the forces acting in opposite directions at a ratio of 9:1 or better. The weight assembly is in continuous rolling contact with a stationary enclosing path partly to avoid any impact contact (hits), partly to reduce the plucking effect on the drive train and finally to achieve that the generated centrifugal forces are exerted on the stationary path and not on the drive train. The Centrifugal Thruster (CT) is capable to generate larger net propulsive force than its own weight (including a motor) therefore capable of flying or hovering. The major advantage of the Centrifugal Thruster (CT) for space applications is that it does not require propellant since the only energy input is electric power. The Centrifugal Thruster (CT) is primarily intended for space applications such as satellite attitude control and other in-space propulsion tasks. Larger embodiments of the Centrifugal Thruster (CT) will serve as terrestrial launch vehicle thrusters. Based upon prototype test results the Centrifugal Thruster (CT) has such low energy consumption (generated net force/watt) that it offers a possible alternative for the now under development hydrogen powered electric car as well.
