The present invention is directed to a compound of formula Image wherein Y denotes (C1-8)alkyl, phenyl, naphthyl or non-condensed or condensed heterocyclyl having 4-7 membered rings each containing 1 to 4 heteroatoms selected from the group consisting of nitrogen, sulphur and oxygen and R denotes hydrogen or a tri(C1-8)alkylsilyl group, in free form or in salt form. and a process for the production thereof. The compounds of the present invention are used as intermediates in the preparation of cephalosporins.
