CEPHEM DERIVATIVES AND PROCESSES FOR THEIR PREPARATION Abstract of the disclosure This application is directed to a process for the preparation of a 2-aminothiazol-4-yl-glyoxylic acid of the formula III Image III wherein R represents a protective group in which an acetylglyoxylic acid ester Image wherein Z represents the radical of an alcohol, is halogenated, the resulting compound Image is reacted with thiourea to give a 2-amino-thiazol-4-yl-glyoxylic acid ester Image an amino protective group is introduced into the compound and the product is saponified to a carboxylic acid of the general formula III. The application is also directed to these compounds which are valuable intermediates in the preparation of antiobiotics.
