An improved metal working tool or die having an outer surface formed from synthetic resin material that is filled with a hardener. The outer surface is formed of a material that consist of a synthetic resin mixed tubular alumina and a surface treating agent such as gamma-Methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane. The tool or die is formed over a pattern by applying the outer hard surface layer to the pattern and then a second or intermediate layer of synthetic resin that is filled with calcium silicate. A third layer of material that includes a reinforcing fiber such as fiber glass is applied over the intermediate layer.
