ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A matrix coating material adapted especially for use in a gas turbine ceramic regenerator having n regenerator matrix of ceramic material which includes a lithium constituent, the porous surface of the ceramic material being impregnated with material to form a protective layer having a high affinity for oxygen and for oxides of sulphur, the oxides of the coating constituents being resistant to corrosion due to the presence of hot gas turbine exhaust gases thereby avoiding loss of lithium in the ceramic material due to inneraction of lithium with oxides of sulphur in the exhaust gases.
