An improved ceramic tower packing support in which an arch or arches spanning a vertical tower from wall to wall provides the support for the floor supporting the packing with the load fully transmitted to the walls and with the support arrangement allowing for improved gas distribution from he inlet gas nozzle to the packing through the floor. The improved design minimizes the arches required for support axed removes the connections from the arches to the floor of the vessel. By comparison with the prior art alternatives, the revised design minimizes the use of ceramic and vessel height.
