ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Cercaricidal compositions and methods for their use are pro- vided herein. The method provides for combatting cercaricides (e.g., the cercariae of schistosomal and echinostomal trematodes) by (a) apply- ing to the cercaricides and/or the water containing them, a cercaricidal amount of a composition comprising a naturally-occurring conjugated poly- acetylene and an inert carrier and, optionally a slow-release molluscicide, preferably as provided in a slow-release matrix; and (b) subjecting the composition after it has been so applied to the influence of UV radiation in the range of 300 nm to 400 nm for a sufficient time to impart, to the naturally-occurring conjugated polyacetylenes such cercaricidal activity.
