A cervical collar (10) having a front collar portion (12) having a chin support portion (40) and generally conforming to the neck, shoulders, and mandible of a wearer. The front collar portion (12), is fabricated from a soft flexible material and a lateral reinforcing support member (30) disposed in the neck region below the mandible bone of the wearer. The support member (30) is fabricated from a substantially incompressible material.
