An apparatus (100) for replacing at least a portion of an intervertebral disc in a spinal column includes: a first member (200) having a first vertebral contact surface (202) for engagement with an endplate of a first vertebral bone in the spinal column, and having a first saddle shaped articulation surface (212, 214); and a second member (300) having a second vertebral contact surface (302) for engagement with an endplate of a second vertebral bone in the spinal column, and having a second saddle shaped articulation surface (312, 314), wherein: an intervertebral disc space is defined substantially between the first and second endplates of the first and second vertebral bones, and the first and second articulation surfaces (212, 214, 312, 314) are sized and shaped to engage one another when the first and second members (200, 300) are disposed in the intervertebral disc space to enable the first and second vertebral bones to articulate in at least one of flexion, extension and lateral bending.
L'invention concerne un appareil (100) permettant de remplacer au moins une partie d'un disque intervertébral dans une colonne vertébrale. Ledit appareil comprend un premier élément (200) avec une première surface de contact vertébrale (202) destinée à venir en contact avec une plaque d'extrémité d'un premier os vertébral de la colonne vertébrale, et une premier surface (212, 214) d'articulation en forme de selle; et un second élément (300) avec une seconde surface de contact vertébrale (302) destinée à venir en contact avec une plaque d'extrémité d'un second os vertébral de la colonne vertébrale, et une seconde surface (312, 314) d'articulation en forme de selle. Un espace discal intervertébral est défini sensiblement entre la première et la seconde plaque d'extrémité du premier et du second os vertébral, et la première et la seconde surface (212, 214, 312, 314) d'articulation sont de dimension et de forme adaptées pour venir en contact l'une avec l'autre lorsque le premier et le second élément (200, 300) sont mis en place dans l'espace discal intervertébral, permettant ainsi au premier et au second os vertébral d'être articulés de manière à effectuer une flexion, une extension ou une flexion latérale.
