A middle expanded, removable disk implant (22) for stabilizing adjacent cervical vertebrae (16, 18). The implant is substantially rectangular in cross-sectional shape with a niminal height (H) and a width (W) greater than the height. The implant is detachably mounted to an applicator for insertion into the anatomical region between two adjacent cervical vertebrae from which the intervertebral disk has been removed, and once inserted, is positioned by anterior-posterior movement in the disk space to the position in which both the expanded, larger width middle portion and the smaller diameter end portions of the implant engage the bodies of the adjacent vertebrae and the implant is then rotated to bring the sides of the rectangularly-shaped implant defining the width of the implant, with its larger dimension (W), into engagement with the bodies of the adjacent vertebrae. A lock, in the form of a stabilizer bar (29), is then secured to the implant to prevent further rotation thereof. The stabilizer bar includes structure which prevents relative rotation between the stabilizer bar and the implant and structure which protrudes into the space between the cervical vertebrae to prevent rotation relative to the vertebrae.
L'invention concerne un implant (22) amovible pour disques, à centre élargi, destiné à la stabilisation de vertèbres cervicales (16, 18) adjacentes. Cet implant présente une section transversale sensiblement rectangulaire avec une hauteur (H) minimale et une largeur (W) supérieure à la hauteur. L'implant est monté amovible sur un applicateur en vue de son insertion dans la région anatomique entre deux vertèbres cervicales adjacentes dont on a enlevé le disque intervertébral, et, une fois introduit, l'implant est positionné par un mouvement d'avant en arrière dans l'espace discal de manière que la partie centrale élargie, de largeur plus grande, et les parties terminales de diamètre plus petit de l'implant, entrent en contact avec les corps des vertèbres adjacentes, l'implant étant ensuite tourné pour amener les côtés de l'implant de forme rectangulaire, définissant la largeur de l'implant, avec sa dimension (W) plus large, à s'engager avec les corps des vertèbres adjacentes. Un dispositif de verrouillage, sous la forme d'un barre de stabilisation (29), est ensuite fixé sur l'implant pour l'empêcher de continuer à tourner. La barre de stabilisation comprend une structure empêchant un mouvement de rotation relatif entre la barre de stabilisation et l'implant, ainsi qu'une structure faisant saillie dans l'espace entre les vertèbres cervicales pour empêcher un mouvement de rotation par rapport aux vertèbres.
