- 1 - ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In a welded metal chain each link is of uniform, substantially trapezoidal cross section throughout its length, the cross section tapering outwardly from an inside bearing surface to the outside surface of the link. In this way the distribution of metal is matched to the distribution of stresses in the link, under load, thereby improving the strength to weight ratio of the chain.
