ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention relates to a seal for a locker receiving anchor or mooring chain on a floating vessel. The sealing arrangement includes a hawse pipe opening and sliding gate members which can be operated to close the opening. An elastomeric material is disposed on the gate members to fit around and sealingly engage a link of the chain to sealingly enclose the opening. The device further includes means adapted to ensure that the chain is located with its links in an appropriate position with respect to the opening. The invention thus provides a watertight seal around the anchor chain where it passes through the chained locker hawse pipe. Thus, the invention prevents progressive down flooding which might lead to instability in an extreme case.
