ABSTRACT Apparatus for controlling a conveyor carrier driven by an endless chain to discharge a load at a selected one of a plurality of discharge stations includes means to store data representing the distance from a reference point to the selected discharge station. The chain includes a series of link-units of predetermined nominal length with a predetermined number of link-units defining a chain segment. Means for counting chain link-units provides a running total of the nominal length of chain between the moving carrier and the reference point. Spaced sensors measure the chain segments to determine errors between the nominal and actual length of the measured chain segments. The actual length of each chain segment is substituted for the nominal length of the associated chain segment while continuing to maintain a running total of the length of chain which total includes the nominal length of any fractional segment. A load is selected and discharged from the conveyor carrier when the running total equals the distance between the reference point and the selected discharge station.'
