Abstract of the Disclosure An improved chain cover for installation on a sailboat to conceal the rough opening in the boat deck through which the chain plate passes and to provide a resilient water-tight joint between the chain plate and the boat deck comprises a basically flat metal plate having a centrally located slot for snugly receiving the chain plate. The metal plate is extruded to form a raised neck extending all around the slot. Prior to installing the cover, a bead of sealing material such as silicone is deposited on the boat deck all around the rough opening. When the cover is engaged over the chain plate and held flat against the boat deck, the sealing material is forced up into the necked portion of the cover and into the gap between the chain plate and the slot wall thereby forming a tight, resilient, waterproof gasket between the chain plate and the cover.
