ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A chair with a position controllable auxiliary back or which the auxiliary back is controllable in its position with respect to a main back of the chair. This chair includes a pair of movement units connected to the auxiliary back to move the auxiliary back with respect to the main back, and a pair of ratchet drive units for driving the movement units to change the position of the auxiliary back. Each of the movement unit comprises a cylinder a piston rod received in the cylinder and having a ratchet rack and an upward extension connected to the auxiliary back and a spring received in the cylinder between the end wall of the cylinder and the spring press plate of the piston rod to bias the piston rod in a direction. Each of the ratchet drive unit comprises a lever and a pawl rod connected to the lever and selectively brought into engagement with a tooth of the ratchet rack of the movement unit in accordance with an operation of the lever to maintain the unit at the desired position. This chair comfortably supports the back of the user s body irrespective of different figures of the users and the positional control of the auxiliary back of this chair is simply achieved. 13
