The invention improves a chair with a tilting seat (1) and a back piece (2) carried by a back support (5), wherein a bearing block (10) is provided, in which an eccentric cam (9) can rotate, wherein a rod (8) passes eccentrically through the eccentric cam (9) and is connected to it without the ability to rotate, and at one end it is connected to a handle (7) by which it can be turned, and wherein an arm (6) is provided in which the rod (8) is mounted such that it can turn. The improvement consists in that the tilting of the seat can be adjusted in more than just two positions and the adjustments are secured against unintentional change. This improvement is achieved in that the bearing block (10) is provided on the back support (5) and the arm (6) on the bottom side of the seat (1), a detent sleeve (14) is joined to the mentioned end of the rod (8), unable to rotate, but able to slide along the rod (8) between a first and a second position, the detent sleeve (14) in the first position engages by detent means (21) fashioned on it with mating detent means (22) on the seat (1), in the second position, the detent means (21) on the detent sleeve (14) are disengaged from the mating detent means (22) on the seat (1) and spring-loaded against the first position, and the handle (7) is joined to the detent sleeve (14) without being able to rotate.
