Phosphorescent taggants are used for characterizing and optimizing the mass distribution of a liquid composition deposited on a solid substrate and of components within a blend of particulate materials. The taggant is deposited on the surface of a solid substrate in the presence of a liquid composition to form a tagged substrate, and upon exposure to light for a sufficient period of time, the tagged substrate emits phosphorescence, which is detected visually, photographically or photometrically. The spacial pattern of phosphorescence emitted from the tagged substrate is indicative of the mass distribution of the liquid composition on the solid substrate or of the tagged substrate within a blend of the tagged substrate with another particulate material.

Selon cette invention, des traceurs phosphorescents sont utilisés pour caractériser et optimiser la répartition de masse d'une composition liquide déposée sur un substrat solide et de composants présents dans un mélange de matières particulaires. Le traceur est déposé sur la surface d'un substrat solide en présence d'une composition liquide afin qu'on obtienne un substrat marqué, lequel substrat marqué, en cas d'exposition suffisante à la lumière, émet une lumière phosphorescente pouvant être détectée visuellement, photographiquement ou photométriquement. Le motif particulier de la phosphorescence émise par le substrat marqué donne des indications sur la répartition de masse de la composition liquide sur le substrat solide ou du substrat marqué dans un mélange renfermant le substrat marqué ainsi qu'une autre matière particulaire.
