In a charge preheater for a metallurgical melting plant with a shaft (5) having blocking members (7, 8) pivotable by an adjuster (6) which contain fingers (9, 10) in mutually parallel and spaced array, the fingers (9, 10) of a blocking member (7, 8) are positioned with a central section in a first rotary bearing (12, 13) and with an outer section taken outwards through an aperture (14, 15) in the shaft wall via a toggle lever mechanism (16. 17) in a second rotary bearing (21, 22) of the frame, and lever arms (18, 19) of at least two toggle lever mechanism are interconnected via link (23) with which an adjuster (6) supported in a third rotary bearing (26, 27) of the frame (2) engages in an articulated way.
