According to a broad aspect of present invention there is provided a network element (SCP) controlling charging of a subscriber in a telecommunications system. The network element comprises means for obtaining subscriber information maintained in the telecommunication system. The network element (SCP) comprises means for finding out which of tariff models defined in the telecommunications system is to be used with this subscriber from the subscriber information indicating the subscriber's tariff model. Each tariff model contains a tariff scheme defining how to charge a call, and for using the tariff scheme of the indicated tariff model when charging the subscriber.
