Abstract of the Disclosure The present invention relates to a check digit numbering mechanism for use in a printing machine. Both a serial reference number and a check digit referring to the serial reference number are printed on each sheet of a series of sheets. Each time a reference number is printed, a signal is generated which selectively actuates solenoids to index a check digit numerator mechanism causing a check digit to be printed.
