A large diameter check valve has an upstream inlet part mountable on a discharge end of a conduit, a downstream outlet part adapted to prevent backflow of fluid through the check valve, and a transition part located between the upstream inlet part and the downstream outlet part. A support is included in the check valve to prevent drooping of the check valve via a cantilever effect. A method for supporting a check valve is also disclosed. -13-
