A B S T R A C T Chelate exchange resins having picolylaminoalkyl groups as the chelating moieties are prepared by reacting a crosslinked haloalkyl polymer matrix resin with a picolylamine to give a resin having picolylaminoalkyl or N-substituted picolylaminoalkyl groups attached to the matrix resin. The corsslinked haloalkyl polymer matrix is prepared by halomethylating a suitable matrix resin, such as styrene-divinylbenzene or phenol-formaldehyde copolymers and reacting this product with a picolylamine, preferably a 2-picolylamine. The chelate resins have high capacity and high selectivity for copper and nickel in the presence of iron, especially when treating acidic ore leach liquors.
