A chemical absorbent comprises a hydrated mixture of a major proportion of a pharmaceutically acceptable hydroxide of a Group II metal and a minor proportion of silica, the chemical absorbent being substantially free of Group I metal ions. The chemical absorbent is particularly useful in low flow or closed circuit anaesthesia, and is advantageous in that it does not react with volatile anaesthetic agents in such a way as to cause the build up of toxic substances within an anaesthetic breathing circuit.
L'invention concerne un absorbant chimique composé d'un mélange hydraté d'une proportion principale d'hydroxyde pharmaceutiquement acceptable d'un métal de groupe II et d'une proportion mineure de silice. L'absorbant chimique est quasiment dépourvu d'ions métalliques appartenant au groupe I. L'absorbant chimique est particulièrement utile à une anesthésie en circuit fermé ou à faible flux et présente l'avantage de ne pas réagir avec des agents anesthésiques volatiles pouvant entraîner l'augmentation de substances toxiques dans un circuit respiratoire anesthésique.
