ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: A novel catalyst system for the polymerization or cop?lymerization of olefines, more particularly of ethylene is disclosed. For preparing the novel catalyst system, a tetravalent titanium compound (Ti IV is previously attached to a solid supporting member and thereafter is reacted with the vapor of at least one metal selected from the group consisting of Mg, Al, Ti, Zr, Mo, V, Mn, Cr, Fe and Zn, in the presence or not of a halogenated compound. Very high polymer yields are obtained and examples are given.
