A method of decontaminating a site of metals, particularly radioactive metals, is provided. The contaminated material is contacted with pulverized bone, which sorbs the metals from the contaminated material. The bone may be derived from any animals having bone, such as cattle. Prior to use, the organic compounds of the bone are removed, so that inorganic bone composed primarily of hydroxylapatite is obtained. The morphology of the bone, including its crystalline structure and porosity, is maintained. As an alternative to bone derived from animals, synthetic inorganic bone composed of hydroxylapatite and having a physical structure equivalent to animal-derived bone may be used.
La présente invention concerne un procédé de décontamination d'un site pollué par des métaux, en particulier de métaux radioactifs. Le procédé consiste à mettre la matière contaminée en contact avec de la matière osseuse pulvérisée sorbant les métaux de la matière contaminée. La matière osseuse peut provenir de n'importe quels animaux ayant des os, tel que du bétail. Avant utilisation, on sépare de l'os ses composés organiques, de façon à obtenir de la matière osseuse non organique se composant principalement d'hydroxylapatite. On conserve à l'os sa morphologie, y compris sa structure cristalline et sa porosité. Selon une autre réalisation, on peut remplacer la matière osseuse d'origine animale par une matière osseuse non organique synthétique composée d'hydroxylapatite et présentant une structure physique équivalente à celle de la matière osseuse d'origine animale.
