Derivatives of antibiotics derived from the microorganism streptomyces lydicus subspecies tanzanius, referred to as antibiotics LL-E19020 alpha and beta, are produced by chemical reaction. The derivatives are also active antibiotics useful in the treatment of bacterial infections. Alpha and beta LL-E19020 has the following formula: (see formula I) Derivatives include the methyl esters, ammonolysis products, monosaccharides of the methyl esters, aglycones of the methyl esters, and triacetates of the aglycone methyl esters.
