A method of and apparatus for deentrainment and mass transfer in a chemical process tower (12). The apparatus comprises a structured packing layer (e.g. corrugated sheet) (104) assembled with a second type of packing layer (e.g. wire mesh) (102) disposed adjacent the underside of a process tower tray (49). The dual layer (100) reduces liquid entrainment in ascending vapor flow and provides an additional region for mass transfer.
