CHEMICALLY SPECIFIC SURFACES FOR INFLUENCING CELL ACTIVITY DURING CULTURE ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Cell culture activity on the surface of the substrate is influenced by varying surfaces in contact with the cell membrane. In particular, plasma modification processes are used to provide specific chemical functional groups, elemental ratios and other surface properties. In the method of the invention for influencing the growth of cell culture in a growth media on a substrate, the surface chemistry of the substrate is modified by subjecting the surface of the substrate to a plasma which is produced from a material selected from the group consisting of carbon, hydrogen, osygen, nitrogen, sulfur, phosphorus, halogens and compounds thereof.
