The present invention relates to the composition of chewing gums. Specifically to so-called sugar-free chewing gums. The present invention discloses a chewing gum composition having a considerably increased shelf life as apparent from hardness and flexibility experiments. This increased shelf life is due to the partial replacement of sorbitol by another polyol, preferably erythritol. The invention also discloses a method for producing the composition and for making chewing gums with the mentioned composition.
