A child restraint is used with a chair having a seat and rear legs. The restraint has a base strap that is connected to the rear legs of the chair using loops at either end of the base strap and buckles for closing and adjusting the length of the loops. Two shoulder straps extend upwardly from the base strap, at the back of the chair and over the shoulders of the child to be restrained. The shoulder straps are joined at their forward ends and connect to a crotch strap extending from the centre of the base strap, over the chair seat to the front of the chair where it is buckled to the shoulder straps. The crotch strap is adjustable in length. A slide buckle is fitted on the shoulder straps so that they can be held together on the child's chest, limitingexcessive separation of the shoulder straps. A cross strap on the back of the child, joining the should straps also prevents their separation.
