A chimney cowl comprising a base plate having a central opening and a top plate separated by a number of baffles which form radial ducts which progressively decrease in area towards the central opening. The inner edge of the baffles terminates at or adjacent the opening. The cowl can include a spigot which projects into the central opening in the base plate and which can be inserted into the chimney flue. In a highly preferred form, the base plate is frustro-conical in shape and the top plate is conical.
