TITLE Chimney Hat INVENTOR Gilles Vaillant ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A hat for chimneys of the type having an inner flue portion and an outer lower flue enclosing structure and adapted for attachment to the flue. The hat comprises a hood portion having a precipitation shedding surface for surrounding the flue and shielding the chimney at the interface region of the flue and flue enclosing structure from falling precipitation. The hood surface defines a central opening having an inner edge for placement in proximity with, but spaced from, the flue. Shielding the interface region from precipitation prevents frost damage. The hat includes a wall portion for restricting entry of precipitation and having openings to allow egress of exhaust from the flue and an upper roof portion attached to wall portion for preventing precipitation from entering the flue opening.
