ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE : The present invention relates to chirally sub- stituted 2-imidazolin-5-ones of the general formula I : Image (I) where R1 is L-.alpha.-phenylethyl, (+)-3-pinyl-methyl, (-)-no- pinyl, or L-.alpha.-carbo-tert.-butoxy-ethyl, R2 is hydrogen, methyl, benzyl or phenyl, R3 and R4 are different from one another and R3 is alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms substituted by methoxy, methylthio, dimethyl- amino, cyano and carbethoxy, benzyl or benzyl which is mono- or disubstituted by alkoxy containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, acyloxy and monosubstituted by chloro, bromo, nitro or methyl- enedioxy, or phenyl, and R4 is alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms substituted by methoxy, methyl- thio, dimethylamino, cyano and carbethoxy, benzyl or benzyl which is mono- or disubstituted by alkoxy containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, acyloxy and monosubstituted by chloro, bromo, nitro or methylenedioxy, or allyl, or R4 is additionally a radical selected from the group consisting of naphtyl-methyl, thienyl-methyl, benzothienyl-methyl and bromo-benzofuranyl- methyl. These compounds are used an intermediates for the preparation of optically active aminoacids, especially of optically active .alpha.-substituted aminoacids.
